Before starting any Machu Picchu hike or tour with Inca Culture Travel, it is important to understand how briefings, pickups, optional mountain tickets, group tours, personal belongings, and tipping work. These details will help you prepare better, avoid confusion, and enjoy a smoother travel experience in Cusco and Machu Picchu.
Pre-Tour Briefing
All our pre-tour briefings are provided at your hotel or Airbnb whenever possible. A member of Inca Culture Travel will visit you personally and explain the itinerary, departure time, required documents, packing recommendations, and important details for your experience.
The briefing usually takes around 30 minutes and is arranged in advance with each traveler. This meeting is especially important for treks, train tours, and activities that include Machu Picchu entrance tickets, because entry times, circuits, and train schedules must be clear before the tour begins.
Hotel and Airbnb Pickups in Cusco
Inca Culture Travel offers pickup from hotels and Airbnbs located in the historic center or central area of Cusco. However, some streets in old Cusco are narrow, pedestrian-only, or restricted for vehicles.
If your accommodation is located on a street where our vehicle cannot enter, we will coordinate a nearby meeting point where our transport can safely access. Please be ready at the confirmed pickup time. Cusco streets can be busy early in the morning, and punctuality helps protect train schedules, entrance times, and the experience of the whole group.
Optional Entrance Tickets: Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain
Machu Picchu is even more impressive when seen from above. Travelers who want a wider panoramic view can add an optional hike to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, depending on ticket availability.
Huayna Picchu
Huayna Picchu is the most famous mountain next to Machu Picchu and requires advance booking because spaces sell out quickly. The hike is mostly uphill and takes about one hour to reach the summit and around 45 minutes to descend.
Tickets are usually available in two entry groups:
• Group 1: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
• Group 2: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
The hike is done independently, but your guide will give you the necessary instructions before you begin.
Machu Picchu Mountain
Machu Picchu Mountain is a longer and higher hike. It usually takes about two hours to reach the summit and around one hour to descend.
Tickets are normally available in two entry groups:
• Group 1: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
• Group 2: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
This is one of the highest viewpoints of the Machu Picchu archaeological site, offering impressive views of the citadel, the surrounding mountains, and the Urubamba Valley.
If you want to visit either of these mountains, request it in advance. Tickets are limited and cannot always be added at the last minute.
Group Tours and Traveler Pace
Group tours bring together travelers of different ages, backgrounds, walking rhythms, and physical abilities. Some people may walk faster, while others may need a slower pace. A respectful and flexible attitude is essential for a better group experience.
Our guides manage the timing and provide support, but travelers should understand that group tours require patience, tolerance, and cooperation.
Lost Personal Belongings
Each traveler is responsible for their own belongings during the tour. Please keep your passport, money, phone, camera, tickets, and personal items secure at all times.
Before leaving hotels, vehicles, trains, restaurants, or archaeological sites, check your seat and bags carefully. Items lost during the route may be difficult or impossible to recover.
Tips for Guides and Trekking Staff.
Tipping is a common tradition on Machu Picchu hikes and treks. In Peru, tips are voluntary and not mandatory. They are simply a way to show appreciation after a good experience.
On trekking routes, groups often collect tips together and distribute them among the guide, assistant guides, cooks, porters, drivers, or other staff who supported the service.
There is no fixed amount. Travelers may tip according to their satisfaction and personal decision.
